Sculpture “Birth of steel” was installed in front of Azovstal office in Mariupol last summer.

Mariupol and Azovstal are almost entirely destroyed now; I wonder what happened with the sculpture. Most lileky it has not survived.

Before the war it looked like this

It was made by self-taught artist, blacksmith Vladimir Vihrenko and installed in the place of the statue of Ordzhonikidze, soviet commissar of heavy industry, who curated Azovstal construction in 1930s.

  1. A powerful piece of art. Whether the physical statue still stands or has fallen, I imagine Her fire burns in a whole new way.
